Warrant Officer A. Hopkins from Venning Barracks Donnington delivered a motivational talk to Year 12 students recently. He touched upon many topics including democracy, the Falkland Islands, Bosnia and Iraq. He spoke about how the army supports countries when natural disasters occur, such as the floods in the Lake District and, more recently, how the army provided support after the earthquake in Turkey. He also explained how the army helps other countries to prevent conflicts.
One of our students explained to the Officer about our academy’s CARE values and he related these to the values and standards in the army. He talked about self discipline and how small changes can improve our lives. He then discussed examples of integrity and selfless commitment.
The Officer talked about degree courses, army careers, his experience as a soldier in Iraq and Bosnia and life in general, including the story of why he joined the army and how finding a job that you enjoy doing will change your life.
