Remembrance Assembly

10th November 2023Rhiannon Watts-Robinson

Today the Academy held two assemblies for Remembrance Day, lead by Mrs Harris, Associate Assistant Principal of Religious Education. These allowed a moment of reflection and contemplation of those we have lost and the events at play in the world today. All were invited to remember and pray for peace and unity in our world.

The main talk of the assemblies was given by Mr Tim Richards, a royal marine commando, who told the story of his life and the experiences he had that lead him to where he is now. He explained how his wanting to change the world for the better changed the direction of his life. His memorial to his fallen friends and colleagues served as a poignant moment of reflection for the loss that war brings. The pictures of his experiences allowed the students to understand more of why remembrance is important.

But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God,
and no torment will ever touch them.
In the eyes of the foolish they seemed the have died,
and their departure was thought to be an affliction,
and their going from us to be their destruction;
but they are at peace.
For though i the sight of men they were punished,
their hop is full of immortality.
Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good,
because God tested them and found them worthy of himself;
like gold in the furnace he tried them,
and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them.
In the time of their visitation they will shine forth,
and will run like sparks through the stubble.
They will govern nations and rule over peoples,
and the Lord will reign over them for ever.
Those who trust in him will understand truth,
and the faithful will abide with him in love,
because grace and mercy are upon his elect,
and he watched over his holy ones.

– Wisdom 3:1-9

Help Your Parish Celebrate Youth Sunday!

6th November 2023Mrs D Curtis

In November 2020, Pope Francis called for a relaunch of National Youth Sunday and moving forward asked the global Catholic community to celebrate locally on the Solemnity of Christ the King.

It will be a day for the world to recognise and celebrate young people in our local church communities, whether that be through school, at home, or of course in church.

Please join us at Blessed Carlo Acutis parish on Sunday 26th November, for the 11:30 am Mass at St Michael’s church, Coalway Rd, Penn, to help us celebrate our wonderful young people. If you attend Mass at another parish, then please make an effort to go to the Mass where they will celebrate this.

24th October 2023Mrs D Curtis

The voting process is now finished, and students have determined the charities they wish to support this academic year. Compton Care, Breast Cancer Awareness, and Save the Children will be the beneficiaries of the fundraising efforts undertaken by the students during this year. Notably, students are already devising strategies to surpass the previous year’s fundraising total of £3,072.

Wear It Pink – Breast Cancer Awareness

20th October 2023Mrs D Curtis

Wear It Pink can be seen as an opportunity to embody the Christian values of charity and compassion. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support. Participating in Wear It Pink allows individuals to demonstrate their commitment to helping those in need, especially those facing the challenges of illness. It reflects the principle of love and care for our neighbors, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and community support in times of adversity. By donning pink attire and participating in related activities, we can show their dedication to alleviating suffering and promoting the well-being of all, in accordance with the teachings of Christ.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. – Psalm 18:2

Blessed Carlo Acutis Feast Day

12th October 2023Mrs D Curtis

Blessed Carlo Acutis, often referred to as the “Cyber Apostle of the Eucharist,” was a remarkable young Catholic who lived from 1991 to 2006. Despite his short life, Carlo left a profound impact on the Church and the world. He had an exceptional devotion to the Holy Eucharist and used his talent in computer programming to create an online catalog of Eucharistic miracles worldwide, sharing the beauty and significance of this sacrament with countless people. His life of faith, humility, and love for others serves as an inspiring example for today’s youth and all believers. Carlo’s beatification in 2020 underscores his status as a role model for young Catholics and a testament to the potential of holiness even in a digital age.

He has saved us and called us to a holy life – not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given u sin Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, – 2 Timothy 1:9

St Francis and St Clare Catholic MAC Mass

5th October 2023Mrs D Curtis

Yesterday all staff members in St Francis and St Clare Catholic MAC had the opportunity to come together to celebrate the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi at SS. Mary and John’s RC Church, Wolverhampton.

Saint Francis of Assisi, born in the 12th century, is one of the most revered and beloved saints in the Catholic tradition. He is renowned for his radical commitment to living the Gospel of Jesus Christ in poverty, simplicity, and humility. Saint Francis had a deep love for all of God’s creation, often referred to as the “patron saint of animals and the environment.” He founded the Franciscan Order, emphasizing devotion to poverty, prayer, and service to the poor. His life and teachings inspire countless individuals to this day, emphasizing the importance of compassion, care for the marginalized, and a profound connection with nature. Saint Francis is remembered for his prayer “Make me a channel of your peace,” which encapsulates his desire to bring God’s love and peace to the world. His feast day, celebrated on October 4th, is a reminder of his enduring legacy and his call to live a life of genuine Christian discipleship.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth. – Psalm 121:1-2

Annual Charity Walk & Litter Pick

25th July 2023Mrs D Curtis

St Edmund’s Catholic Academy’s annual charity walk and litter pick event took place on Friday 21st July. It was heartwarming to see the school and the community coming together to raise funds for deserving charities, chosen by our students, and promote environmental stewardship.  This year parents and carers were also invited to join in the fun.

The chosen charities for the event, are as follows:

1. Local Charity: Let Us Play
2. National Charity: Promise Dreams
3. International Charity: Action Against Hunger

By supporting these charities, the school is not only making a positive impact on the local community but also contributing to national and international causes. It’s great to see parents, carers, and even the local Police being involved, which makes the event even more special and inclusive.

Such events play a crucial role in promoting awareness about social and environmental issues while instilling values of compassion and empathy in the students and the community at large

“If the simple fact of being human moves people to care for the environment of which they are a part, Christians in their turn realise that their responsibility within creation, and their duty towards nature and the Creator, are an essential part of their faith.” Pope Francis, Laudato Si
