Earlier this month, St Edmund’s Year 7 and 8 girls football team played in a 6 a side tournament at the newly opened Wolves academy dome.

The team were drawn in a league with Moreton, Wolverhampton Grammar School and Coppice with their matches being played on the Steve Bull pitch. St Edmund’s created a number of opportunities in their first game against Wolverhampton Grammar School and were unlucky to lose the game 1-0.

The second match was more successful with a 0-0 draw against Coppice. St Edmund’s had to win their final game against Moreton to have any hope of qualifying for the semi-finals. St Edmund’s created a number of opportunities in the opening minutes of the game but were frustrated not to score.

Just as it looked like the game was heading for a draw, Ciara Nicholls scored, finding the top corner of the goal and giving the goalkeeper no chance. Sadly this wasn’t enough to get through to the semi-finals. Considering the team hadn’t played together before, they can be proud of their performance and they are looking forward to more fixtures in the future.
