Enterprise Adviser

Now retired, my finishing position was Vice President and General Manager at United Technologies Aerospace Systems at Fordhouses Wolverhampton. I was responsible for the wellbeing of 1200 employees and the profit and loss of a $500million turnover.

I worked at UTC for some 48 years, starting as an Engineering apprentice, it was then called H M Hobson. Since then the name has changed several times, Lucas Aerospace, Goodrich, UTC and now Collins Aerospace to name a few.

The Company design and manufacture Aircraft actuation systems for both civil and military applications including missiles.

My first position following my apprenticeship was a Systems Engineer before embarking on a career path that lead to my final position as VP and General Manager, these included Programmme Manager, Sales and Marketing Manager, Programme Director, Operations Manager, Value Stream Director, Aftermarket General Manager and Site Manager.

I was educating in Wolverhampton, attending the Wolverhampton Grammar Technical, (formally Wolverhampton Technical High) where I completed ‘O level’ GCE’s , Wulfrun College where I completed an ONC in mechanical engineering and then Wolverhampton Polytechnic ( now University) where I completed a degree in mechanical engineering. My ONC and Degree was completed as part of my apprenticeship.

In my role as Enterprise Adviser to St Edmunds School I interface with the School Careers Adviser and   responsible for overseeing and monitoring the Careers Guidance Strategic Plan and ensuring that the programme of activities and events meets the eight Gatsby benchmarks laid out by Government and that it is embedded into the school curriculum from Year 7 through to Year 13.

The purpose of the Careers Guidance programme is to prepare students for the world of work and help them acquire the interpersonal skills need to succeed in Industry and make all students more aware of the workplace environment.
